ZAANSTAD – Jong AZ achieved a good result against De Graafschap on Monday. The formation of coach Jan Sierksma was too strong at home with 3-0 The Super Farmers. Mexx Meerdink opened the score with a penalty kick, after which Jayden Addai scored the second goal not much later. The decisive goal was scored by Damienus Reverson.

The home team started the game strongly and managed to pin De Graafschap in their own half. After just three minutes, Finn Stam got his first big chance. The defender tapped the ball narrowly wide from a free kick. The second achievement followed not much later when Addai had a free shooting opportunity from the side. He found former AZ goalkeeper Mees Bakker in his path.

Baker again
The club from Doetinchem got into the match a little better around the twentieth minute and was especially threatening with crosses. However, Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro did not have to take action and saw his team take control again with the halftime score in sight. Ernest Poku was especially dangerous. In the 35th minute, the quick attacker was released for Bakker, but the goalkeeper made another save. Shortly afterwards, Poku scored again, but this too did not result in a goal.

Penalty Meerdink
After the break, Jong AZ quickly created new opportunities. In the fiftieth minute it was Poku again who found space behind the Doetinchem defense and was free in front of goal. However, he shot wide. In a similar situation, Jong AZ received a penalty in the 54th minute. Addai was knocked out, after which the referee pointed to the spot. Meerdink stood behind the ball and sent Bakker the wrong way: 1-0.

Changed direction
Not much later, Bakker managed to save Meerdink’s mighty shot with great difficulty, making it 2-0 in the 57th minute. Addai came in from the flank and got a shot towards goal. His effort was deflected and therefore fell into the goal.

Corner
With the final whistle in sight, the visitors started looking for the tying goal. That almost happened in the 74th minute when Jan Lammers headed narrowly wide from a corner kick. On the other side, substitute Ricuenio Kewal was dangerous. He managed a shot, but saw his attempt go over the back line via an opponent.

Saves Owusu-Oduro
De Graafschap managed to squeeze out a final offensive and forced Owusu-Oduro into action. The goalkeeper made a great save in the 86th minute from a bet by Mimoun Mahi and made another save not much later. In this way, Owusu-Oduro prevented an exciting final phase. The decision was made in injury time. Kewal and Reverson went free towards Bakker. The former laid wide, after which Reverson put the 3-0 on the scoreboard.
