Xavi has not felt respect and appreciation for his work within FC Barcelona. For the trainer, this is one of the reasons to quit the Spanish club after this season.
“It feels unpleasant to be the coach of FC Barcelona,” Xavi explained his striking decision, which he announced at a press conference on Saturday immediately after the dramatically lost league match against Villarreal (3-5).
“It’s cruel. They have no respect or appreciation for your work and it’s a terrible blow to your mental health and mood. I’m a positive man by nature, but I don’t have the energy to keep going anymore. That’s why I have to be 30 leave in June.”
If Xavi completes his term of service, he will have been Barcelona’s coach for 2.5 years. This would make him one of the longest-serving trainers in recent years. Tito Vilanova, Gerardo Martino, Luis Enrique, Ernesto Valverde, Quique Setién and Ronald Koeman also did not last longer than three years.
“It is impossible for a Ferguson to join Barcelona,” said Xavi, referring to Alex Ferguson’s 27-year successful era at Manchester United. “We need to change direction and dynamics.”
Xavi is taking a sabbatical
As Koeman’s successor, club icon Xavi successfully controlled FC Barcelona. The highlight of his career followed last year with the Spanish national title. It was Barça’s first in four years.
This season things went wrong at Barcelona. In the Spanish competition, the club is at a great distance from leader Real Madrid and pursuer Girona. And Xavi’s team could not convince in the Champions League either.
Xavi does not think that he will be put on watch by President Joan Laporta before June 30. “I think there is no doubt that I am a club man. I have put the club before my own interests. I have given everything and will do so in the coming months.”
“I don’t know what the future holds for me after that. But this job means I can spend less time with my family. They are suffering. I can’t be selfish all my career. I will be home for a while and rest .”
