The tenth edition of the Rugby World Cup has also reached its epilogue. An epilogue that couldn’t have been more epic, considering that in the final the two most successful nations in the history of the competition clashed, both with 3 victories before the battle at the Stade de France: South Africa and New Zealand.
At the end of 80 very tough minutes the Springboks, reigning world champions, confirmed their place for the fourth time. They resisted all the All Blacks’ comeback attempts (despite the numerical inferiority for a large part of the match) and snatched another very narrow victory 12-11. A success which, in addition to launching them into the Olympus of rugby as the most successful team in the history of the World Cup, cements their primacy in the World Rugby Ranking.

Thanks to this latest success on French soil, South Africa confirms its first place in the world rankings, edging out New Zealand which loses 1.75 points and climbs to third place, behind Ireland in second place.
With France remaining stable in fourth place, England finds space behind the Blues who, by winning the 2023 Rugby World Cup final, obtains 1.74 points and moves away from Scotland, stuck in sixth place. Argentina, the national team beaten by the English, at least maintains seventh position but Wales threatens it less than a tenth of a point away.
For the rest, nothing else changes in the men’s ranking. Italy remains in eleventh place between Fiji and Japan but can at least smile for having improved by two positions compared to the start of the 2023 Rugby World Cup (click here to see what the standings looked like before the start of the World Cup).
As regards the women’s ranking, coach Raineri’s Italy, thanks to the latest success during the WXV against the USA, confirms the seventh place achieved last week, moving closer to Wales and keeping Scotland, also victorious, at a distance. England dominates at the top, followed by New Zealand and France.
