This Monday, the 27th, Al-Nassr faced Persepolis, at Al-Awwal Park Stadium, in the fifth round of Group E of the Asian Champions League, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. with one down since the 16th minute of the first half, but held on for a draw.

With the result, the Saudis secured first place with 13 points in their group and advanced to the next stage of the Asian tournament, while the Iranians remained in second with eight and are now seeking a place in the competition’s play-offs.

Before this duel, the team has a duel with Al-Hilal this Friday, at 3 pm (Brasília time), for the Saudi Championship. Persepolis faces Al-Duhail in the next round, at the same time.

In the first minutes, Al-Nassr maintained possession of the ball and reached the opponent’s area after two minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo was brought down in the area, and the referee awarded a penalty, but the Portuguese said there was no foul and the referee canceled the call after a VAR review. After that, the teams began to study each other more, but with an arrival from both sides. However, at 16, the home team had one sent off: defender Ali Lajami made a strong tackle on the Iranian number 10 and received a straight red.

With the numerical advantage, Persepolis tried to put pressure on their opponent, reaching at least three times in danger, but without clear chances. With 35 played, the Iranians started to play further back with the strategy of taking it 0-0 at halftime. Al-Nassr, in turn, failed to be aggressive in the first half of the game.

In the second half, at seven minutes, Persepolis opened the scoring with Zahedi, but the flag flag was offside when the pass was made. After consulting the VAR, the goal was disallowed. However, soon after, the visitors continued to attack and Sarlak finished from distance, forcing the goalkeeper to make a good save. Al-Nassr responded with a well-crafted play and a pass from Otávio to Cristiano Ronaldo, who narrowly missed opening the scoring with a shot that skimmed the post.

Even with the opportunities at the beginning of the second half, the level was not maintained throughout the remaining minutes of the game. While Al-Nassr was unable to be effective due to the numerical disadvantage, Persepolis continued trying to put the ball on the ground, but the technical disparity was noticeable. As a result, the game ended in a goalless draw and with the Saudis having the upper hand, as they qualified with the result.
