UPDATE on October 30, 2023 at 6.00 pm

Parma, 30 October 2023. After the intense rainfall that occurred today, the situation in the Municipality of Parma is slowly returning to normal. All river levels are currently falling. The situation is constantly monitored by the relevant bodies.

Nonetheless, given the continuation of the alert for tomorrow, 31 October, citizens are invited to adopt behaviors marked by the utmost prudence and to pay attention to institutional press releases, consulting the portal and the social channels of the Municipality.

UPDATE AT 1.30 PM

The peak flood ended in the city around 1.30pm. The maximum peak was recorded in the Ponte Verdi hydrometer, with a level of 3.49 metres. After the closure of the Carrettieri bridge, the other bridges in the city were kept open.

The management of the emergency, in the most critical hours, saw excellent collaboration between the Municipality – Municipal Civil Protection Operations Center – and the head teachers of the schools affected by the flood. The assessments and measures to be adopted to overcome the emergency moment were shared in real time.

Updates will follow in the afternoon in view of a disturbance arriving in the next few hours.

From 12.00 on 30 October 2023 alert ROSSA due to river flooding in the provinces of PC, PR; for landslides and floods in the minor courses in the provinces of PC, PR, RE, MO, BO; alert ORANGE due to river flooding in the provinces of PR, RE, MO, BO, RA; for landslides and floods in the minor courses in the provinces of PC, PR, RE, MO, BO, RA; for thunderstorms in the provinces of PC, PR, RE, MO, BO, RA; for wind in the provinces of PR, RE, MO, BO, FC, RN; alert YELLOW for river floods in the provinces of RE, MO, BO, FE, RA; for thunderstorms in the provinces of BO, FE, RA, FC, RN; for wind in the provinces of PC, PR, RE, MO, BO, RA, FC, RN; by sea state in the province of FE; for storm surges in the provinces of FE, RA, FC, RN.

The intense rainfall observed and forecast today 30 October will determine hydrometric levels close to or above threshold 3 on Aveto, Nure and Parma-Baganza, close to or above threshold 2 in the other watercourses of the western sector of the region, with widespread landslide phenomena, extensive runoff along the slopes and rapid increases in hydrometric levels in the smaller network with bank erosion phenomena. In the evening, sea conditions are expected near the coast which may generate localized phenomena of marine ingression and coastal erosion, particularly on the Ferrara coast.

In the early hours of Tuesday 31 October, favorable conditions are still expected for the development of strong intensity thunderstorms progressively moving from the western to the eastern reliefs with the phenomena ending in the morning. Precipitation will slow down the exhaustion of current floods, while landslides, widespread runoff along the slopes and bank erosion in the smaller network will be possible in the first half of the day. South-westerly strong gale-force winds (75-88 km/h) are expected in the mountain areas and moderate gale-force winds (62-74 km/h) in the hilly areas of the region, with temporary reinforcements or gusts of higher intensity attenuating from hours evening. In the first half of the day, the sea off the coast of Ferrara is expected to be very rough to rough, with subsequent attenuation and sea conditions near the coast which may generate localized phenomena of marine ingression and coastal erosion.

Real time update.

Update 11.51 am – Baganza torrent full

Given the maximum flood of the Baganza torrent, expected for 11.45 am today, as a precaution, it was ordered the closure of the Carrettieri Bridge, which will be reopened as the flow of the stream decreases.

Parma Civil Protection operators are engaged in road inspection operations in Piazzale Fiume, via Baganza, via Po and via Taro.

The Municipal Civil Protection Operations Center – COC – is gathered for the appropriate assessments, particular attention is paid to the socio-health, school and sports facilities, as well as to public housing, located near the Baganza stream.

Update – Mayor’s post

The water level of the Baganza is rising sharply and the city has also entered the red alert zone.

At this moment we have closed the Carrettieri Bridge (Piazzale Fiume/Casa di Cura Piccole Figlie) and evacuated the Lauro Grossi and Palalottici sports facilities.
