What does the new Champions League format involve?
The biggest change is to the group stage, which will become a 36-team league stage. Each club faces eight different teams (four at home, four away). The top eight classified directly access the round of 16; the teams ranked from ninth to 24th place play-offs for the direct elimination phase, where the winners advance to the round of 16. From that moment on, the competition continues with the classic direct elimination phase.
