No victories in the first 9 days of the championship and just 6 points collected. The first could have come against Lecce, but Piccoli’s late goal prevented Udinese from breaking the deadlock. And so, for Andrea Sottil, the possible revival match turned into his last match on the Friulian bench. The coach, in fact, he was exonerated on Tuesday evening, through a statement that appeared on the official channels: “Udinese Calcio announces that it has relieved Andrea Sottil of his duties as first team coach. Our heartfelt thanks go to the coach for his professionalism and the commitment always shown and for the good moments experienced together in this year and a half in which he led the team. Also leaving the club are collaborators Gianluca Cristaldi, Salvatore Gentile, Jacopo Alberti and Eugenio Vassalle, whom the club thanks for their work. Thank you mister and good luck.”
Sottil sacked, Cioffi’s return ready
The first name to replace Sottil is that of Gabriele Cioffi, last year at Verona and curiously sacked just after 9 days. For him it would be a return given that he has already been in Udine between 2020 and 2022: first as assistant and then as first-person coach following Gotti’s dismissal. At the helm of the Friulians he played 24 games with an average of 1.42 points per match.
