Thus, the result was historic for Toulouse. It was the first time that the club had beaten an English team in European competitions.

Furthermore, Toulouse recovered from the 5-1 defeat to Liverpool in the last round, and reached seven points in second place in Group E. At the same time, the French celebrated the defeat of Union Saint-Gilloise for bottom team LASK, also this Thursday, which left the Belgian club in third place, with four points.

On the other hand, Liverpool had a poor performance this Thursday and wasted the opportunity to guarantee early qualification for the knockout stages of the Europa League. Furthermore, the result declared the end of the campaign with 100% success in the tournament. Even so, the Reds lead Group E with nine points.

With an alternative team, Liverpool had difficulty presenting good football at the Toulouse Municipal Stadium. Despite having more possession of the ball, Liverpool were surprised by the home team, who opened the scoring in the 35th minute through Dönnum. The advantage fired up the fans who created a good atmosphere for Toulouse.

Liverpool returned from the break with changes to the team and players like Salah and Alexander-Arnold were looking for a turnaround. However, it was Toulouse who created the main dangerous plays and dominated the match. Encouraged by the fans, the home team put pressure on the Reds and reached the second goal after 12 minutes, with striker Dallinga.

Liverpool threatened to react when Cásseres sent it into his own net and reduced the lead. But, just two minutes later, a fatal Toulouse counterattack ended in a goal from Magri, who came off the bench to put the team back in front. Finally, Liverpool managed to pull one back with Diogo Jota in the final minutes and the score of 3-2 prevailed until the final whistle. The Reds even had a goal disallowed in the last play of the match, adding even more emotion to the French triumph.
