In Naples, at the beginning of the twentieth century, the three brothers Peppino, Titina and Eduardo grow up with their young mother, Luisa De Filippo. Their natural father Eduardo Scarpetta, who is the most famous and richest actor and playwright of that period, passes himself off as their uncle, completely neglects them and is often severe towards them. Scarpetta, despite not having recognized them, introduced them to the world of theater since they were children.
Upon the death of the great actor, his legitimate children divide his inheritance, while Titina, Eduardo and Peppino receive nothing. It is the story told by the film “The De Filippo Brothers”, directed by Sergio Rubini and broadcast this evening at 9.30 pm on Rai 1. However, “Uncle” Scarpetta passed on to the three young people a special gift, his great talent, which however did not fall to his legitimate son Vincenzo, also an actor and playwright, who became the owner of his father’s company.
The redemption from the painful family history will pass through the formation of the De Filippo trio: a dream cherished for years by Eduardo and his brothers and finally realized, by joining forces and overcoming difficulties and conflicts, to give life to a new and more modern way to tell the reality. The cast includes Mario Autore, Domenico Pinelli, Anna Ferraioli Ravel, Biagio Izzo, Giancarlo Giannini.
