The locations of Per Elisa – The Claps case, where the TV series about the murder was filmed

The first episode of the drama airs tonight on Rai 1 at 9.45pm For Elisa – The Claps case, directed by Marco Pontecorvo. The miniseries brings to the small screen a crime case which still represents an open wound for the country, due to the much pain it caused and the time it took to reach the culprit (Danilo Restivo). The murder of Elisa Clapsin fact, is a feminicide that found its epilogue only years later: the student killed at 16 however, it remained in the hearts of Italians, who have never stopped asking for justice and truth. The series was entirely filmed in Potenza, where the events actually took place, from 18 January to 30 March 2023. In the role of the protagonist there is Ludovica Ciaschetti; Gianmarco Saurino instead he plays his brother Gildo Claps.

The locations of the TV series

The miniseries was financed with the patronage of the Municipality and the Province of Power. This city, in fact, is the backdrop to the entire story. It is here that Elisa Claps lived with her family, it is here that she disappeared on 12 September 1993, it is here that her body was found 17 years later, exactly where she was last seen: at the Church of the Santissima Trinità (in the attic).

The set was set up right at the church: filming took place inside, outside and on the roof. Some scenes were instead filmed in the square: in particular, the part relating to the torchlight procession organized in memory of the victim was filmed there. Then there is the part relating to the trial: that too was filmed in Potenza, at the city prosecutor’s office. The National Library was also involved.

The story of Elisa Claps, however, does not only concern Italy. Her murderer Danilo Restivo, number 1 suspect from the beginning, was also guilty of another crime before it got to him: he killed his neighbor Heather Barnett in England, where he had moved in the meantime. That part of history concerning Bournemouth, in Dorset, was reconstructed in Rome and on the Lazio coast.
