The Dutch Juniors remain clear in European Championship qualifying, three goals in injury time

The Dutch Juniors are still clear in the European Championship qualification due to a 4-2 win over Young Sweden. Sontje Hansen, Ruben van Bommel (2x) and Noah Ohio were the scorers. Michael Reiziger’s team now has 18 points from six games and is on course for qualification.

The Netherlands was certainly not the better in the initial phase. Early in the match there were two big chances for home country Sweden. Although the first goal attempt was shot wide, it was scored after nine minutes, but the goal by Vitesse player Joel Voelkerling Persson was disallowed for offside.

The Dutch team, which played with Emanuel Emegha as striker in place of Noah Ohio, then got into the match a bit better. But it did not yield any great opportunities. After half an hour, Kenneth Taylor gave a wide ball to captain Dirk Proper, but his shot went wide.

After 36 minutes there was the first really big chance. After a good attack, the ball came to striker Emegha via Taylor and Ruben van Bommel. But he grazed the ball in a promising position instead of hitting it full and saw the ball roll wide of the goal.

A minute later the home team scored. Sebastian Nanasi was able to take advantage of a mistake by Sontje Hansen and found the goal via goalkeeper Calvin Raatsie and defender Finn van Breemen: 1-0.

Another minute later, Hansen made up for his mistake. After a good cross from Taylor, Van Bommel laid back. Hansen was then able to finish easily. After that 1-1, national coach Michael Reiziger’s team started the match better.

In the second half the match started evenly, the first chance was for Voelkerling Persson on behalf of Sweden. But the Netherlands still took the lead. Where Youri Regeer hit the post, the rebound was spot on. Ruben van Bommel shot the ball calmly behind goalkeeper Oliver Dovin after 65 minutes.

Then Young Sweden, where in addition to Voelkerling Persson also Casper Widell from Excelsior had a starting place, tried to score the equalizer. But the strength soon faded away.

In injury time, Ohio, who had come on in the second half, took advantage of the space that Sweden had to allow. He was sent away at exactly the right time by Million Manhoef and finished calmly. Joakim Persson signed for the 2-3 in the fifth minute of injury time.
