Didier Drogba intervened and asked French fans to show respect when Dibu was booed during the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
El Dibu Martínez received the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper of 2023 at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris. When Martínez took the stage to collect his award, his last-minute save on Randal Kolo Muani in the 2022 World Cup final was replayed on the screen and the French fans present in the auditorium were heard booing the Argentine.
Former Chelsea star Didier Drogba, who was hosting the ceremony, had to intervene at one point and asked fans to show respect to the award winner. The former striker told the hecklers to stop and show some respect to the World Cup winner.
Earlier, as the Aston Villa star entered the Theater du Chatelet with his wife Amanda Gama, French fans were heard booing the goalkeeper.
The 31-year-old will return to action for his club on Sunday when they take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
