Roda JC was too strong for Jong Ajax 2-1

Roda JC started its twelfth match of this season against Jong Ajax in front of more than 8,000 spectators. The match got off to a slow start in the opening phase. Yet Roda JC managed to score early. Walid Ould-Chikh shot the ball into the goal after about ten minutes of play. Unfortunately, this goal was canceled due to offside. On the other hand, Young Ajax was dangerous through Stanis Idumbo Muzambo. Fortunately, Koen Bucker had a good save.

Not much later there was the lead for Bas Sibum’s team. On a pass from Metehan Güclü, Enrique Peña Zauner managed to score the 1-0 with a shot into the long corner. Roda JC then continued. Ould-Chikh was close in search of the 2-0. His long shot was unfortunately saved by goalkeeper Charlie Setford. After this, Roda JC was dangerous twice more through Sami Ouaissa, but the score remained 1-0.

On the other hand, the visitors kept getting better. While Idumbo Muzambo and Jaydon Banel saw their attempts turned away by Bucker and Brian Koglin, Nassef Chourak managed to score. The midfielder tapped a deep pass, in one go, past Bucker for the 1-1.

In the second half, Roda JC started a lot brighter than how they ended the first half. Immediately there was a good attempt from Peña Zauner. The attacker shot narrowly wide from a great distance. After this, the biggest chance of the first fifteen minutes of the second half was for debutant Lucas Beerten. An excellent cross from Reith was headed in hard by the Belgian, but unfortunately it was straight at goalkeeper Setford.


This was followed by a series of heading opportunities. The Limburgers tried to outwit Setford three times, but three times they failed. Both Güclü and Matisse Didden saw their headers turned away and Orhan Dzepar headed wide from close range.


In the end, Sibum’s team deservedly took the lead. While everyone thought of a foul on Peña Zauner, Ould-Chikh continued. The midfielder shot the 2-1 against the ropes via the inside of the post.


In the final phase, Roda JC failed to decide the match. Substitute Van der Heide (two shots saved by Setford), Marvin Pourié (a lob over the goal) and Matisse Didden (shooting opportunity from close range) failed to make it 3-1. In the last minute, Ould-Chikh seemed to score the third Roda goal, but this time too Setford was in the way.


However, the home club no longer gave away opportunities and so the three points remained in Kerkrade.
