Tim den Besten has a rare form of cancer, news agency reports ANP according to his lawyer. The 36-year-old program maker is still waiting for the results of some tests. Then his treatment begins.
“In addition to the physical consequences, Tim’s illness had and continues to have a major impact on his mental health,” the lawyer said on behalf of Den Besten and his family. “The precise diagnosis has recently been established and the results of the latest tests are currently awaited before treatment can begin.”
Den Besten resigned from his duties last month. Also the recordings for the sequel series Timmyland have been shut down.
The VPRO confirmed on Thursday afternoon after reports from juice vlogger Yvonne Coldeweijer that the program maker is seriously ill. To protect his privacy, the broadcaster did not want to say what was wrong with the presenter.
“Tim den Besten is seriously ill and therefore cannot be found online lately,” his employer told NU.nl on Thursday afternoon.
Den Besten has made several programs for the VPRO, such as 100 days in your head, 100 days for the classroom in De outsiders. From 2014 to 2017 he wrote a weekly column for the broadcaster’s website.
