Evanilson and veteran defender Pepe scored throughout both halves of the match to lead Portuguese Porto to maintain its chances of advancing to the round of sixteen in the Champions League after a 2-0 victory over ten players from its guest Royal Antwerp on Tuesday.
Brazilian Evanilson, who scored a hat-trick in Porto’s 4-1 win over host Antwerp in the previous round last month, gave Porto the lead from a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
Porto took control of the match after Antwerp midfielder Jurgen Ecklenkamp was sent off seven minutes after the break.
Despite the numerical superiority, Porto needed to wait until the first minute of stoppage time in the match to add the second goal with a header from the 40-year-old Pepe.
Porto is level with leaders Barcelona, each with nine points, with a three-point lead over Shakhtar Donetsk, which won 1-0 over Barcelona earlier today.
Antwerp lost for the fourth time in a row, wasting the opportunity to advance to the next round with two rounds remaining at the end of the group stage.
