Pieter van Oord becomes CEO of Royal Schiphol Group. He will start on June 1, 2024. Van Oord (1961) is currently CEO of the family business Koninklijke Van Oord, which has its head office in Rotterdam. He will be succeeded by Govert van Oord.
Schiphol’s supervisory board appoints Pieter van Oord “because of his extensive managerial experience in a complex, operational sector. His experience in the field of assets and vision on making the aviation sector more sustainable weighed heavily on the supervisory board.” Van Oord succeeds Ruud Sondag. Sondag has been interim CEO since November 1, 2022.
Chairman of the Supervisory Board Jaap Winter says: “For Pieter, sustainability is an essential topic. This is in line with Schiphol’s ambitions to accelerate sustainability and reduce the burden on the environment and the climate. He is an experienced leader who can build teams and strengthen confidence in Schiphol among our own employees and the outside world.”
Royal Van Oord
Pieter van Oord has worked at Royal Van Oord, the international maritime contractor, for thirty years, the last fifteen years as CEO. “Schiphol is a major hub for Dutch and international mobility,” says Van Oord. “I realize that this meaning must go together with other interests, inside and outside the airport. I would like to contribute to the transition of Schiphol and aviation, based on a responsibility I feel for our society. I look forward to the transfer period with Ruud Sondag and to the collaboration with the entire Schiphol team. I do this knowing that I am leaving the wonderful Van Oord family business in good hands.”
With Govert van Oord, the family business transfers management from the fourth to the fifth generation. The formal appointment will take place at the Van Oord shareholders’ meeting on April 11, 2024.
