‘One of the most beautiful soap operas I’ve ever seen’

Humberto Carrão32 years old, is excited about the premiere of the remake of Reborn. The actor only participates in the first phase — condensed into the initial 13 chapters –, playing the protagonist of the story, José Inocêncio, who will be played by Marcos Palmeira in the second stage of the plot.

Adapted by Bruno Luperi, the novel was originally written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa and shown in 1993. The classic scene in which José Inocêncio (Humberto Carrão) plants the machete at the feet of the jequitibá-rei and takes his oath will be shown in the first chapter of Renascer, which aired this Monday (22).

As he was very young, Carrão did not follow the plot. When he found out that he would do the remake, the actor made a point of watching the classic, which featured Leonardo Vieira in the role of young José Inocêncio. In the second phase, the character fell to Antonio Fagundes.

“I saw the first phase of Reborn at Globoplay when they called me to play the protagonist. The importance of having seen it was great. It made me crazy to do it (laughs). It’s one of the most beautiful soap operas I’ve ever seen: the text is very powerful, very rich”, says the actor, who had already acted in another remake when he made You-you-you (Globo, 2010).

Role shared with Marcos Palmeira

Friend of Marcos Palmeira since they worked together in Full of Charm (Globo, 2012), Carrão tells what it’s like to share the protagonist with the veteran. “Marquinhos and I have an old relationship. José Inocêncio at the end of the first phase looks less like he did at the beginning. It’s strange to do 13 chapters and not resolve the conflicts.”

According to the actor, he and Palmeira made some combinations in characterization and gestures when composing the role. “This character suffers a huge loss and it’s strange to hand over this inheritance to Marquinhos. I think it’s normal for there to be strangeness in the phase change. We combined some things in the character’s speech.”

Carrão also highlights his respect for the work of more experienced actors. “I am an actor who is very passionate about the history of our older actors. I am amazed at seeing what came before because they are the ones who stimulate us. We are doing something very beautiful.”
