Striker was one of those called up in the Mexican squad for the World Cup
O Guild is close to agreeing the purchase of Funes Mori, from Monterrey, in Mexico. The 32-year-old striker could be a good reinforcement for Tricolor and Lance’s season! Tells you a little more about the player.
Having spent time at major clubs in Europe and South America, Funes Mori began his career at FC Dallas, but soon joined River Plate’s youth squad. It was with the Argentine team that the striker moved from the youth team to the professional squad, where he stayed for five years and scored 22 goals.
His good performance on the field for River Plate caught the attention of big clubs, and in 2013, the Argentine was signed by Benfica, from Portugal, where he played for two seasons and was loaned to Eskisehirspor, from Turkey.
After his time in Europe, Funes Mori was sold to Monterrey, from Mexico, and it was there that the player found himself. In the 328 games he played on the field, he scored 160 goals for the club. The striker’s performance in Mexico led him to be called up to the country’s national team, as the player has Mexican nationality.
Funes Mori participated in the 2022 Gold Cup, where he scored three in the Mexican team’s campaign. However, due to a muscle injury suffered, the striker had little preparation for the World Cup, but was still called up for the World Cup.
Grêmio’s football department has been trying to agree on the signing of the striker soon, so that he can participate in the pre-season with the rest of the squad. Funes Mori has already accepted the transfer and the parties continue to discuss details of the contract.
