In the third phase of the FA Cup, Manchester City hosted Huddersfiel, this Sunday (07), at the Etihad Stadium. With a calm performance and largely dominating the match, the team led by Pep Guardiola won 5-0; Foden (2x), Álvarez, Bobb and Doku scored.
Huddersfield’s first chance of the game came in the ninth minute. Thomas was launched into the attack and came face to face with Ortega, but the Manchester City goalkeeper made a great save to avoid the first goal of the game. Manchester City had to make their first change in the 18th minute, when Akanji, injured, gave way to Matheus Nunes.
City started to press and had a good chance in the 27th minute, when Grealish crossed and the defense cleared it. At 30, Foden took a risk from outside the area, but goalkeeper Nicholls managed a good save.
The first goal came in the 32nd minute, in a play on the right. Grealish passed it to Kovacic, who found a good pass for Álvarez. The Argentine hit a cross, the ball caught the defense and ended up with Phil Foden, who hit a cross to open the score for Manchester City: 1-0.
It didn’t take long and, four minutes later, City managed to increase the score. Foden played for Matheus Nunes, who played for Rico Lewis. The shot went wrong, but the ball was still left for Julián Álvarez to touch and send it into the goal: 2-0 and the final score in the first half.
When returning to the second stage, the teams returned without changes. The first chance came from Manchester City, in the seventh minute. Bobb received it in the area, went through the marking, but shot out. At 11 the first change came, with Kevin De Bruyne replacing Grealish.
In the next minute, Kovacic launched the attack to Matheus Nunes, who passed it to Oscar Bobb. The player tried to cross, but the ball caught defender Jackson and went towards the goal: 3-0 for Manchester City.
At 19 minutes, the fourth goal came. After a short corner kick, Kovacic played with his heel to Foden, who shot with great skill into the goalkeeper’s right corner, which hit the ball, but didn’t avoid it: Manchester City 4-0.
Commanding the game, Manchester City scored their fifth goal in a play on the right of the attack. Kevin De Bruyne was launched and managed to cross just right. Doku appeared with freedom, finished first and sent it into the corner: 5-0 and the final score.
