Young Ajax won Gastón Ávila in the starting line-up from Helmond Sport on Monday evening with a million-dollar purchase. The reserves triumphed 4-1 at home. FC Groningen and ADO Den Haag made a big splash in the Kitchen Champion Division.
Ávila came over from Royal Antwerp FC last summer for at least 12.5 million euros, but new Ajax coach John van ‘t Schip has not used the defender once so far. That is why the Argentinian was allowed to gain competition rhythm with the promises.
With only 352 spectators at De Toekomst, Ávila Jong saw Ajax fall behind. Mika Godts, who came on as a substitute for the first team on Sunday in the home match against Vitesse (5-0), unfortunately hit the ball into his own goal.
The breaking point in the match was the second yellow card for Helmond Sport player Mees Kreekels after more than half an hour of play. Jaydon Banel made it 1-1 immediately after halftime and Godts scored the 2-1 on a pass from Ávila. Stanis Idumbo Muzambo and Banel lifted the score to 4-1 in the final phase. Ávila completed the ninety minutes.
With the fourth win of the season, Jong Ajax takes more distance from the bottom places in the Kitchen Champion Division. The team of coach Dave Vos is seventeenth with sixteen points from as many matches.
Van der Sande scores hat-trick for ADO
ADO Den Haag and FC Groningen scored in spades on Monday. ADO was too strong for Jong FC Utrecht at home 6-0, while FC Groningen won 0-5 against AZ’s reserves.
ADO was already 4-0 ahead against Jong FC Utrecht at halftime. With three goals and one assist, Jort van der Sande was the big man at number four in the Kitchen Champion Division, which is now five points behind leader Roda JC.
FC Groningen was on target especially after the break with three goals. With the big win in Wijdewormer, the team of coach Dick Lukkien is slowly climbing out of a deep valley. The ‘Pride of the North’ now leads the right row and is one point away from a place for the play-offs for promotion.
FC Emmen made no mistake at home against Jong PSV (1-0) and thus maintained third place in the rankings. FC Eindhoven and bottom line TOP Oss did not score on the Aalsterweg. De Graafschap-FC Dordrecht was canceled due to rainfall.
