Guest at “Very true” with Rita Pavone the actor Giancarlo Giannini pays homage to the director Lina Wertmullerwho passed away at the age of 93 in December 2021. Wertmuller chose Giannini as the protagonist of the cult film “Pasqualino Settebellezze” which in 1977 earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Director, the first woman in the history of cinema to do so. Last March, a star was dedicated to the actor from La Spezia Walk of Fame di Hollywoodthe second Italian actor to obtain the prestigious tribute after Rudolph Valentino in 1960. Giannini recalls how his approach to a film career occurred almost by chance: “After graduating as an industrial electronics expert I had to go to work in Brazil on the first artificial satellites“, he says, “but someone suggested I go to the academy of dramatic art where I passed the selection out of 900 candidate students”.
Giancarlo Giannini then recalls the belief that he would return to Brazil as soon as he finished his studies at the Academy of Dramatic Art, but his entry was instead the start of a long career in cinema: “I consider myself lucky in this profession, I tried to learn well and even today they ask me to do so”, explains the actor.
