Foggia municipal election results, turnout at 60%: counting has begun

Polls closed and counting underway in Foggia where yesterday and today until 3pm people voted for the choice of mayor and the renewal of the city council after more than two years of commissionership due to mafia infiltration. The final turnout (with only one section slow in arriving) was 60.38%. A figure lower than that of the previous municipal elections in 2019 when the turnout reached 66.74%. Five candidates are competing for the position of mayor out of over 700 councilor candidates. In the event of a run-off, voting will return on Sunday 5 and Monday 6 November.

The candidates

Maria Aida Episcopo, director of the provincial school office, is running for the mayor’s seat, supported by the so-called Campo Largo Progressista: proposed by the M5S it is supported by the Pd, Italia Viva, Azione and six other civic lists. Then the young lawyer Raffaele Di Mauro who leads the united center-right coalition and is supported by five lists. Three civic candidates: university professor Nunzio Angiola – parliamentarian in the last legislature, head of a coalition of four civic ones -, Antonio De Sabato, former municipal councilor of Foggia supported by two civic lists, and Giuseppe Mainiero, accountant, with a past as a city councilor supported by two civic members.
