Flamengo wins in its debut in the Copinha: 2 to 1

Garotos do Ninho’s victorious debut in the São Paulo Junior Football Cup. In a match held this Friday, at the José Liberatti municipal stadium, in Osasco (SP), Flamengo beat São José-RS, 2-1, with goals from Petterson and Werton. Four-time champion of the competition, athletes played with a black mourning ribbon on their shirt in honor of masseur Deni, who passed away in the first days of 2024.

The next match for the red-black team, which leads group 19 of the Copinha, will take place next Monday (8), at 8:30 pm, against São Bento-SP.

The game

Like every opening game of the season, the Mengão kids found it difficult to find space against a very defensive opponent. In one of the good moves of the first half, Werton made a good individual play, and narrowly missed opening the scoring.

In first-half stoppage time, Mais Querido scored the first. In a play worked on the left side, full-back Zé Welinton reached the baseline and crossed backwards. Striker Petterson, well placed, scored a beautiful shot to make it 1-0.

Midfielder Lorran, who returned from vacation later after being involved in some games by coach Tite last year, came on at halftime. And just 1 minute away, Mengão increased the score. After a cross from the right, Pedro Estevam headed the ball to a partial save by the goalkeeper. On the rebound, striker Werton, with great skill, played over the archer. A beautiful goal.

After six substitutions made by coach Mario Jorge, fatigue took a toll on the red and black team and São José scored at 36. Despite the goal, Flamengo knew how to control their actions and ended the game calmly.
