The shock it was short, but enough to trigger the fear of the population throughout the Fermo area and neighboring provinces. First a dull roar was heard, then the ground began to shake, triggering a pause from the residents. Many frightened people went out into the streets.

Where the shock was felt

The earthquake was also distinctly felt Ancona, Macerata, Ascoli, Civitanova. Where, in particular, a user on “Strong, very. I live in Fermo,” wrote a woman.

The other areas where the earthquake was felt are, among others: Corridonia, Saint Severus, Castignano, changing room, Colmurano, Recanati, Appignano.

High danger

They had already been there yesterday two shocks, although weak and at sea, but close to the coast of Ancona, Pesaro and Fano. Magnitudes of 2.6 and 2.4 in the same area, where the fearful earthquake of magnitude 5.5 was recorded a year ago.

“The area affected by the earthquake today is characterized by high seismic hazard– Ingv informs – as demonstrated by the Seismic Hazard Map of the national territory (MPS04) and by the strong earthquakes that have occurred in the past”.

There are two strong earthquakes in the past closest to today’s epicenter: the November 26 event 1972 of estimated magnitude Mw 5.5 in the southern Marche and the seismic event of 3 October 1943 of estimated magnitude Mw 5.7 in the Ascoli area”.
