FC Utrecht reached the second round of the TOTO KNVB Cup on Tuesday evening. The team of coach Ron Jans won 3-2 against rival RKC Waalwijk and thus provided a bright spot after a mediocre start in the Eredivisie.
FC Utrecht seemed to be heading for a big win in the first half. The Domstedelingen took a 3-0 lead at home within half an hour.
The goals were scored by Oscar Fraulo, Mike van der Hoorn and Isac Lidberg. The latter took advantage of a penalty after a foul by Michiel Kramer. Just before half time, Chris Lokesa put RKC back into the match: 3-1.
After the break, it was Lokesa who scored for RKC again, making it even more exciting in Stadion Galgenwaard. With one minute left on the clock, referee Laurens Gerrets sent both teams to the locker room due to thunder. The players returned to the field after a few minutes, but the score did not change.
Go Ahead Eagles escaped disgrace against the amateurs of Koninklijke HFC. The home team from Haarlem led 1-0 through a goal by Yassine Bouchnafa when defender Gerrit Nauber equalized in the ninetieth minute.
In extra time, HFC player Xander van den Berg received a red card after a serious foul. Not much later, Victor Edvardsen made it 2-1. In the second half of extra time, Sylla Sow and Thibo Baeten expanded the score to 4-1.
