Go Ahead Eagles lost an Eredivisie match for the first time in almost a year on Sunday. The team of coach René Hake lost 1-3 against FC Twente in Deventer.
The last time Go Ahead Eagles lost a home game was on January 25 of this year. AZ was then too strong in De Adelaarshorst with 1-4.
FC Twente took the lead on Sunday after just 34 seconds through Manfred Ugalde. On a pass from Sem Steijn, the Costa Rican headed home against the grain. It was the third-fastest goal by FC Twente in this century.
Halfway through the first half, Steijn himself made it 0-2. The attacking midfielder took over the ball from Ugalde, immediately scored and scored his ninth goal of the season.
Enric Llansana brought the tension back into the match in the 71st minute by scoring with a nice long shot. Five minutes later Younes Taha determined the final score. The substitute was sent deep by Daan Rots and finished coolly.
FC Twente climbs to third place in the Eredivisie thanks to the victory. The Tukkers can be overtaken by AZ later in the day, if the Alkmaarders get at least a point in the away match against FC Utrecht.
