A start to the year in the eye of the storm for billionaire Elon Musk.
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, in recent years Musk has used, in various circumstances, hard and illegal drugs such as LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, mushrooms and ketamine, as an antidepressant. Some managers and members of the board of directors of Tesla and SpaceX, two of the visionary American entrepreneur’s companies – the article continues – fear that the use of these substances could damage not only his health, but the performance of his companies and the billions in assets he oversees.
The billionaire’s provocations, his anti-system outings, were instead justified by his supporters as an expression of his creativity and not as the result of his mental health problems or a consequence of stress or sleep deprivation.
People close to Musk, now 52, have said his drug use is still ongoing, particularly ketamine use. The entrepreneur is said to have frequently taken LSD, cocaine, ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms at private parties around the world where guests sign non-disclosure agreements or agree not to use their cell phones.
Illegal drug use, the financial newspaper writes, would likely represent a violation of federal policies that could jeopardize Spacex’s billions of dollars in government contracts.
Musk said he had a prescription for the psychedelic drug ketamine and had previously used marijuana in public, including at a party in Los Angeles in 2018, where he also took several acid tablets.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Linda Johnson Rice, former director of Tesla, was so enraged by the billionaire’s behavior and his drug use that, in 2019, she decided not to run for re-election to the board of directors of the electric vehicle manufacturer.
In 2018, Musk got into trouble with NASA after he was seen consuming marijuana on the Joe Rogan Show. This raised concerns about the effects of Musk’s behavior on the company and led to random drug testing of SpaceX staff.
