Earthquake today in Rovigo of magnitude 4.2 with epicenter in Ceneselli: felt in Veneto and Emilia Romagna. No damage has been reported at the moment.
A new shock of earthquakeAfter the one from three days ago, was registered in Veneto. The epicenter, once again, was located at Ceneselliin the province of Rovigo. The earth shook at 5.29pm and according to the INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) this time too the magnitude was 4.2 on the Richter scale. The earthquake originated at a depth of 11 kilometers and was also distinctly felt in many municipalities in the surrounding area, starting from those of Calto, Salara, Felonica, Trecenta, Castelmassa e Ficarolowithout of course forgetting the capital Rovigo and other important cities such as Ferrara, Carpi and Modena.
In the minutes immediately following the earthquake, thousands of residents in the area communicated on social networks that the earth had trembled again: this afternoon’s tremor was in fact the second shock within a few days. The first, again in the province of Rovigo with its epicenter once again in Ceneselli, occurred on 25 October and had a magnitude of 4.2. That earthquake was also clearly felt by the population throughout the Veneto and Emilia. In central Bologna, checks began immediately on the Garisenda tower, given its precarious condition in recent times. Some schools had sent students out of classrooms in the province of Ferrara, where however no damage had been reported.
The INGV classifies this area as of medium risk. The most important earthquake of the recent past was that of May-June 2012 in Emilia Romagna, which caused 26 victims and very significant damage. On 17 July 2011 there was another 4.5 magnitude earthquake very close to today’s and Wednesday’s earthquake, but in that case no damage was recorded. Also this afternoon the fire brigade teams started carrying out the necessary checks, but at the moment no critical issues have been reported.
The INGV explains that “today’s seismic event was felt throughout the entire area of the Po Valley between Veneto, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna, in particular between the provinces of Rovigo e Mantua with resentments up to IV-V MCS degree. These resentments are confirmed by preliminary map of the effects of the earthquake obtained from the questionnaires (over 730) already sent (at 6.00 pm) to the website www.haisentitoilterremoto.it, which is continuously updated”.
