Corinthians and Cruzeiro decide on Copinha led by young people who can fill professional needs

In grassroots football, the most important thing is to reveal players so they can reach the professional ranks. But results and titles, of course, help to legitimize clubs with better work. Today, Corinthians e cruise compete in the final of the Copa São Paulo, the biggest grassroots tournament in the country.

Starting at 3:30 pm, at the Neo Química Arena, the São Paulo team seeks to expand their position as greatest champion and reach their 11th trophy, while the Minas Gerais team want their second title. The two arrive led by some young people who already have expectations in the main teams.

Of the 24 Corinthians goals in this edition, six came from the feet of Pedrinho, a midfielder who turns 21 next January, and is waiting for a contract renewal to establish himself as a professional, as his current contract lasts until February 2025.

However, the biggest highlight of the team is our teammate, Breno Bidon. Scorer of a beautiful goal in the quarter-finals, against América-MG, the 18-year-old jewel has attracted attention since 2022, when he even trained among the professionals and won praise from then coach Vítor Pereira. Since he was under-17, he has already attracted interest, including from European football.

Bidon’s contractual situation is very similar, and Corinthians should value these names, especially after the good Copinha. They may take place in light of the renewal promoted under the new presidential administration, which released names such as the experienced Renato Augusto and Giuliano.

Another position that came to the fore was the right back, even more so with the mess involving Matheuzinho, from Flamengo, who will no longer be hired. Looking for a successor to Fagner, the answer may lie in Léo Mana, who has also trained among professionals and has been featured at Copinha. An absolute starter, the 19-year-old player scored four goals in this edition, three of them from penalties, as he is a qualified taker.

The Minas Gerais team arrived with a very young squad, with an average age of 17.5 years, and have been having a great campaign. However, they will not have their top scorer at the most important moment. Striker Fernando, 18, who scored four goals and four assists, received his third yellow card in the semifinal against Flamengo.

Without him, the responsibility will fall on midfielder Gui Meira, who also has four goals and guaranteed qualification to the final, and Jhosefer, a great highlight of the team in this Cup, already with experience in professional matches in 2022. In goal, the goalkeeper Otávio Costa protects against one of the best defenses in the competition, with two goals conceded.
