Club that formed Cristiano Ronaldo, Sporting seeks investor

O Sporting Lisbon is considering the sale of a minority stake, the Bloomberg with people with knowledge of the subject, in an attempt to capitalize on investor demand for Europe’s historic football clubs.

According to the source, Sporting has held talks with potential players from around the world, but negotiations are still at an early stage. A Sporting Lisbon representative was not immediately available for comment.

Sporting Lisboa is one of the three big teams in Portugal – alongside FC Porto It’s from Benfica – and currently leads the Portuguese championship. Founded in 1906, the club is known for its model of discovering and developing young, talented players before selling them for high sums. His most famous talent is Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the great names in football history.

The path to new investment in Sporting Lisboa was eased by debt restructuring in December, which gave the club’s management greater control over such decisions.

Europe’s elite football clubs have been highly sought after by major investors in recent years. From billionaires to private equity executives, the quest to unlock more value for investors in the world’s most popular sport.
