A 41-year-old man from Utrecht died this morning in a stabbing in the Utrecht music center TivoliVredenburg. The police report this. All events planned for today in the center have been cancelled. The police arrested a man as a suspect a few hours after the stabbing.
At the time of the stabbing, around 7 a.m., there were no more events in the building. According to the police, the party crowd had already gone home at the time of the stabbing. It is unclear what the perpetrator was doing at that moment in TivoliVredenburg.
Tivoli had a hardcore event last night that ended at 6am and a monthly LGBTIQ party that ended at 4am.

The victim was a man who worked at a cleaning company hired by TivoliVredenburg.
It is unclear exactly what happened in the center. Emergency services responded extensively, including an air ambulance, but help for the man was of no avail.
Director Jeroen Bartelse of TivoliVredenburg calls it “not appropriate” to continue the program today because of this morning’s event. He says he is “affected and sad”.
Bartelse says that employees of the music center tried to help the victim. The police then arrived, but they were also unable to save the victim. The employees who were on site were taken in for aftercare.
