Singer Joe Jonas and actress Sophie Turner’s impending divorce is getting more acrimonious as shade is now being thrown at the Jonas brother.
It follows days of comments suggesting the Game of Thrones star’s alleged desire to entertain while Jonas was content to sit at home with the kids was a factor in the break-up.
But those close to Turner, 27, have now hit back, saying Turner wanted to stay at home but attended events with Jonas despite feeling “uncomfortable”.
On Wednesday morning US time, the couple coordinated identical Instagram posts to address the split in a “two of us statement”.
“After four wonderful years of marriage, we have jointly decided to end our marriage,” it said.
“There are many speculative stories as to why, but, truly, this is a mutual decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy and our children.”
Jonas, 34, filed for divorce on Tuesday in a court in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
According to the Associated Press, the filing states that “the marriage between the parties has been irretrievably dissolved.”
After the split was announced, entertainment website TMZ reported a source who said that Jonas and Turner had “different lifestyles,” with Jonas preferring to “stay at home” while Turner enjoyed going out.
Said a source for Daily mail that Turner felt her professional and personal life had stalled since marrying Jonas, whom she began dating when she was 19.
“She became famous at a very young age, then got married and had kids… and never had the teenage years of sleeping around and just having fun with friends.
“Since the kids came along, he feels trapped.”
Photos have emerged of Turner, who played Sansa Stark in GOT, partying in a pub in the central English city of Birmingham.
However, that one high-profile night out was reportedly a work event – the finale party for a British TV series she was filming called Joan.
Jonas ‘less support’
TMZ has now released comments from people around Joe Jonas when their second child was born last July.
It was claimed that Jonas was “a bit supportive”.
“After their youngest child was born … Sophie didn’t want to leave their home … she didn’t want to be photographed or go to events,” TMZ said.
“Despite this, she attended several events with Joe, but at one particular event, several people who were there said Sophie made it clear she was uncomfortable and didn’t want to be there.”
Later, Turner was absent from an event Jones attended. He is said to have “complained” that his wife is “MIA” and that he “needs to go out more”.
“It was clear to the people who were there and heard Joe … there was tension in the relationship.”
However, a few months later, Jonas reportedly complained that Turner was out too much.
Jonas came to the UK during the northern summer with their two children while Turner worked.
But that, it seems, was not enough to save the relationship. Then he returned to the USA with the children.
It is claimed that Jonas “saw/heard” something on the Ring cam that was the “last straw” in the couple’s relationship.
The Ring is a popular small camera that allows users to monitor an area – like a front door – from their phone.
“Joe had access to a Ring camera which he said recorded Sophie saying and/or doing something that made him realize the marriage was over,” it said.
The Page Six of the New York Post reported that the decision to divorce was “a last resort for Joe” after months of feeling “unhappy”.
“He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course for his girls,” the insider said.
“An unhappy home is not a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie have been going through that this year.
“It just kept building and Joe finally got to the point where he felt he had exhausted all options to save the marriage.”
