Carlos Alcaraz: “Great athletes demand themselves, that’s how I am”

Alcaraz, without problems to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open

The Spaniard crushed Kecmanovic 6-4, 6-4 and 6-0 to reach the top eight.

Carlos Alcaraz (2nd in the world ranking), remains attached to his role as a candidate for the title and is already among the eight best in the Australian Open. The Spanish defeated Miomir Kecmanovic (60th) without problems in the round of 16 and now he will go for Alexander Zverev (6th), a rival that will force him to raise his level even further, as he acknowledged in a press conference.

“It feels something special to make the quarterfinals here. This is an incredible tournament. It’s great to be able to play at this level in the matches. I feel better and better with each passing day. I reach the quarterfinals with a lot of confidence. I take this with an advantage thanks to the confidence with which I am playing now. Contra Sasha I hope to play even better“, the Iberian slipped.

Regarding his match with the German, who already knows what it is to beat him (he did it four times), Alcaraz expressed: “I love playing against him. They are always great battles and he pushes me to play my 100% all the time. I have to improve my level compared to the last time we played, when he beat me. I hope to take revenge for that last defeat.

Finally, he particularly referred to what needs to be improved for the remainder of the tournament. “I am a very demanding person. To always be there one must demand oneself and do better. When receiving there were some moments where the forehand was not going well. In my head I want to make it perfect. Great athletes do that, push themselves and do it perfectly, that’s why they got there. That’s how I am“concluded the former world No. 1.
