Braga surprised and is in the final of the Portuguese League Cup. The team knew how to take advantage of the opportunity they had, withstood the opposing pressure and beat Sporting 1-0 this Tuesday (23), at the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa Stadium, in Leiria. Abel Ruiz came off the bench and scored Braga’s winning goal in the 20th minute of the second half.

In this way, Braga overcame the isolated leader of the Portuguese Championship, and now awaits the winner of Benfica and Estoril to find out who the opponent will be in the grand final of the League Cup, which takes place next Saturday (27). The other semifinal will be played this Wednesday (24), at 4:45 pm.

Braga x Sporting

Sporting took the initiative from the beginning of the game and the score at zero in the first half was surprising. Leão managed to create good opportunities, mainly on the left side of the field, with Nuno Santos. The left winger was even responsible for hitting two balls against Braga’s post.

After the break, the game became more balanced and both teams created chances to open the scoring. However, Sporting arrived with more danger and wasted two good chances with Viktor Gyokeres and Pedro Gonçalves. On the other hand, Braga didn’t leave it cheap and after a cross from the right by Rodrigo Zalazar, Abel Ruiz got rid of the marking and, with his head, scored the qualifying goal. At the same time, Leão felt the goal, tried some hasty moves and was unable to avoid a 1-0 defeat.
