An American delegation in Taiwan to congratulate Lai Ching-ti, the winner of the presidential elections

Taiwan urged China on Sunday to “face reality” and respect the results of the presidential election that resulted in the victory of Lai Ching-ti, a supporter of independence for the autonomous island, which Beijing considers part of its territory. On Saturday, Lai Ching-ti, the Democratic Progressive Party candidate and outgoing Vice President Tsai Ing-wen, pledged to defend the island in the face of China’s “continuous threats and intimidation.” This comes as an American delegation arrives in Taiwan on Sunday for an unofficial visit, according to what the US representative office in Taipei announced.
