This album has been lovingly re-mastered which sets it apart from other Johnny and the Hurricanes products on the market, many of which are illegal pirate copies of inferior sound quality!

Please allow me to intrude briefly into your life. I have just ordered the 2 CD set "Red River Rock" (the one which includes a DVD) which has to be the best available compilation of your late husband's works. I also read your review there on the Amazon page and while the reader would expect a favourable review, I was impressed with the warmth and love so obvious in your brief statement there. You are obviously very proud of him and his work, as much as I as a fan admired it!.
His music back then was the soundtrack of my teen years & his other material I play frequently.
I wish you well and trust your Christmas is enjoyable

An email sent by Nigel Gapper (bass) to Paul Smith (manufacturer of the Anthology and Johnny and the Hurricanes’ European agent) in regards of the DVD included in the Anthology: “Hi, it's Nigel Gapper here. Many thanks for the Johnny and the Hurricanes DVD, it brought very fond memories back to me of the time we spent with him in the eighties. I found Johnny to be a kind and generous man, although very strict when it came to rehearsing!!!!! While we were rehearsing he complained, because he wanted an authentic sound and was not happy with the sound of the keyboard. So in the end he got the original organ shipped over. He was right in this, as this made all the difference! Each time Johnny came over to England he would bring over a bottle of Jack Daniel's for each band member, which was very much appreciated! The management employed a driver for Johnny, but all he kept asking was if he could travel in the van with the rest of us. I think he wanted to recapture the early days and being on the road. Johnny did not like being interviewed by the press or by radio, but we talked him into doing it, as we thought it would be in his best interest. Under protest he agreed on the conditions they bought the band a meal and in return he would answer yes or no to their questions. We did find this very amusing.”
“One of the biggest things I liked about him was when he introduced a song, he always introduced it as “our song” never just as “his own” - as a lot of artists do. That show that you have on DVD recorded in 1986 we were only meant to play Rock and Roll, but you will see us asking him to play Harlem Nocturne, as this was our favorite. John was a very talented Jazz musician. I note that the DVD has been mixed, this must have been very difficult as we were having trouble with the P.A system that day, you can hear it go down at the end of Rocking Goose. My thoughts and condolences go out to Sonja Paris, although we never did meet her. I do hope that she gets to read this and that it brings a smile to her. I am currently still playing in a trio with a tenor saxophone working in the south west of England, although I do miss those tours from the eighties. They were very good times!”
